The ASK-13 is a two-seater glider built by German sailplane manufacturer Alexander Schleicher Gmbh & Co.. It’s development started in 1965 by Rudolf Keiser who continued the development of the two-seat Ka-2 and Schleicher Ka-7, by introducing the ASK-13.
Our different experiences and backgrounds have allowed us to synthesise our common passion for scale gliders in our new ASK-13R: a reproduction of the iconic German ASK-13 glider redesigned and reengineered in a modern concept (we have called it “R(eloaded)“).
To achieve this idea, we faced a truly unique challenge: applying to an extremely successful full scale project, those aerodynamic improvements coming from our numerical simulation models (download the aerodynamic study below) together with the current aesthetic lines that characterise the most recent full-scale gliders.
INSPIRED BY THE PAST, BACK TO THE FUTURE
The ASK-13R offers a smooth and enjoyable flying experience as the original one. To obtain this “easy to fly” feeling, the same amount of negative sweepback degrees was voluntarily maintained, also for leveraging on a more controlled “stall behavior” without having the need of twisting the profile. In addition, the aerodynamic review of some elements like the cockpit, the fuselage sections and the elevator, combined with the two airfoils we selected, allow the ASK-13R flying at an extraordinarily realistic speed.
WISE UTiLIZATION OF COMPOSITES
Laminated wings in composite material with full carbon-fibre sandwich structure, finally sheeted with a 50 grams glass fiber layer to obtain a finishing effect of smoothness, regularity and attention to details.
Fiberglass fuselage with carbon reinforcements (2.4Ghz friendly) from the nose to the tail section. Full carbon rectangle wing joiner.
HIGH LEVEL OF FINISHING
All rudders are hinged and made as elastic flaps with wipers to cover the gaps. Aileron’s horns are already installed and carbon made. Elevator and rudder ones are included into the kit but not installed to give builders the maximum flexibility.
Cockpit and canopy are ready, including the instrument-panel.
LIVERIES
ASK-13R can be customised with different liveries and colours: mould painted or with vinyl stickers. On top of the KB3Aero ASK-13R official livery, it is possible to have the model full-white, -red, -green, -yellow or -grey or with the same colours but with grey bottom side. Last but not least, designed in collaboration with Andy’s Folienwelt, three different sticker liveries are available.
Servo kit AND DRIVE SYSTEM (8S)
The ASK-13R can be equipped with both KST or CHAServo servos (see price list for more details). The basic equipment considers four servos for wings (2aile/2flaps), two servos for elevator and one for rudder.
The drive system kit, properly designed to allow autonomous take-off from the ground, includes Torcman 530-28 engine combined with Fes-Ex Uni8, GM prop 17×10 and all the needed ribs (CNC milled) for an easy installation of the engine.
LANDING GEAR
Fema L/Fes 8-20kg with 127mm wheel full-aluminium or -carbon retractable landing gear complete with all accessories for installation customised for the ASK-13R directly from Fema.
PROTECTIVE BAGS
Premium quality bags produced by Revoc, our partner and European leader in the field of wing and fuselage bags. They can be ordered in cordura (a highly resistant to impact and scratching and partially water-repellent fabric) rather than alu reflective fabric.
OTHER ACCESSORIES
A wide range of accessories developed in collaboration with Torcman are available for the ASK-13R. For a perfect setup of the pull-pull rudder servo system, we have developed a carbon frame allowing an accurate trimming of the cables and the decoupling of their load from the servo using a secondary shaft.
For engine batteries, there is the possibility to use the new AKKU-FIX Quick Change System: quick change of batteries, easy regulation of the center of gravity and a ball locking mechanism capable of withstanding impressive tensile forces of over 100 kg, are the main features of this new battery tray.
