FES systems

Today, as in the past, most scale gliders equipped with electric propulsion involve the installation of propeller propulsion with a motor mounted at the front of the fuselage. Said solution has often been the subject of much criticism from gliding “purists,” regardless of whether it was the full-scale world or not. Already for some years, however, even full-scale gliders have been equipped since their “birth” with this type of propulsion, universally identified by the acronym FES (Front Electrical Sustainer).

In fact, the ability to takeoff at any time with one’s own aircraft without the aid of winches or “towers” has been enthusiastically welcomed by pilots all over the world. In addition, the constant improvement of motors, batteries, and regulators seems to want to break down all (or most) of the limits to electrification of model aircraft and manned aircraft.

The German company TORCMAN GmbH, back in the late 1990s, began to focus on FES drive technology, succeeding in recent years in offering solutions for almost all applications and weight classes in the world of scale gliders.
